Guy Graphics Product Review

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't every videographer have in his or her arsenal of video editing tools those things that are "nice to have" and those things that are "must have's". For anyone who currently uses multiple cameras, or plans to in the future, we believe we have found a product that falls into the category of "must have's". United Media's Multicam is a software product that allows video editors to easily preview, sync, scrub, cut and edit between multiple camera sources, as if simulating a live camera switch.

United Media's Multicam with Matrox, December 2001

In researching this article, we noticed that resellers and integrators were bundling the RT2500 with another product from United Media called Multicam Editor. A by-product from United's On-Line Express NLE systems, Multicam runs on Matrox 2000, 2500 or DigiSuite hardware, and provides terrific editing power. When we tested this combo we found it almost to good to believe.

United Media Multicam: Take a few cameras and make it look like you had a production truck
(by Charlie White)

Here's a software add-on for Adobe Premiere that lets you direct a production after the fact -- it's Multicam by United Media ($599), software that can give you a timeline-based editing environment with up to four cameras synched together. Then, as you work your way through the production, you pick which camera is "on line" at any given time. The software works only with Premiere on Matrox products, including RT2000, RT2500 and all the DigiSuite iterations.

Digit Magazine, United Kingdom, December 24, 2001

It’s not often that you encounter a product that’s truly unique – but Multicam definitely fits the bill. It’s based on the standout feature of United Media’s high-end On-line Express – a Windows NT- and Digisuite-based real-time editing suite, also called Multicam. On-line Express was aimed at editors who felt most comfortable with live-broadcast production switchers and pre-NLE editing systems such as Lightworks – and the new, standalone version of Multicam brings this philosophy to users of Matrox’s most popular hardware...

This is Rocket Science

Alan Surgi does his editing by the rocket's red glare at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Surgi serves as an audiovisualist for Lockheed Martin, using a United Media On-Line Express nonlinear edit system to cut together an ongoing series of projects documenting the day-to-day activity of all the Lockheed Martin technical operations...

On-Line Express scores 9.5 (out of a possible 10)

United Media is a seasoned company that's been around for over 20 years. In contrast to many nonlinear editing products that came up through the ranks of computerdom, it's a company that was founded by editors, for editors. It started its life selling linear edit systems using a controller attached to good-old-fashioned tape machines. The appeal of United Media's products is that, because of its experience with this long line of editing...

Wedding Videographers give a “Thumbs Up” to United Media's On-Line Express

United Media's On-Line Express was first shown to pro wedding and event videographers at WEVA EXPO '99; it tucked away in the corner of the Medea Corp. booth, running with their SCSI RAID storage arrays.
I was immediately struck with awe! Up until then, I had thought there was no efficient way to edit multiple camera events on a nonlinear system, and linear was the only way to go. But the On-Line Express...
